Tokyo Selected as a 2016 Olympic Candidate City!!

Tokyo is an official Olympic candidate city! The city was selected in a meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Athens on June 4th.

So now as well as being a world-class destination for business and tourism alike, with a prestigious Olympic candidacy under its belt Tokyo takes another step on the ladder to transforming itself into an iconic 21st century Metropolis.

The final selection for the 2016 host city will be held on October 2nd,2009. Tokyo's competitors are Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid. All of us here at Japan Ireland Travel would like to wish Tokyo the very best of luck in its bid to host the games. If Tokyo is successful, it will be the second time that the Japanese capital has hosted the summer games, the first time being in 1964. Japan also hosted the 1972 winter games in Sapporo, and also the 1998 winter games, which were held in Nagano.
