What to expect

Essential Travel Pack

Approximately two weeks before your tour, you will be sent a detailed information pack that will include your final itinerary, some pre-departure travel tips, Emergency and Local Contact telephone numbers, local maps, suggestions for extra activities, and information on how to access the tours starting point (All passengers on our small group tours are met at the airport on Day 1, in the starting city, e.g. if the tour is starting in Tokyo, you should arrive to Haneda or Narita Airports). This bundle of invaluable information will make your journey through Japan as seamless as possible.

Frequently asked questions

How many members join your tours?

On average our tours have 8-10 people. The minimum number is 6 and there is a maximum of 16.

When is the best season to go to Japan?

Japan is a country with four distinct seasons.

It is therefore easy to predict temperatures so depending on the temperatures you prefer to travel, will determine what the best season for you will be. If colder temperatures don’t bother you, we recommend going in the Winter for a number of reasons:

  1. Fewer people/tourists at the must see sights
  2. Less traffic in cities so you can see more
  3. Prices are less peak so we can get more for your money!
  4. Colder temperatures mean cosier atmosphere indoors, especially in your ryokan and at the hot springs (onsen baths)
  5. Make the most of the outdoor onsens surrounded by snow (if going into mountainous regions)

How do I get there?

You arrange your own flight or we can arrange it for you. We work closely with local agents for flight bookings, so if you prefer to deal with just one company for your tour & flights we can do this for you. Simply ask for a quotation when booking your tour. We recommend you communicate your interest in the tour before booking your flight as this way we can advise you on the best options. ALL tours begin and end in Japan. This means you are not limited to just one country either.

How much extra money will I need?

We estimate you will need approximately 5,000JPY – 8,000JPY per day which will be used for personal use only, i.e. some meals, drinks, souvenirs, etc. All other costs such as entrance fees, transport, meals (not all), hotels, and activities will be included in the tour price.

What type of transport modes do you use?

Depending on the size of the group, we use the Japan Rail Pass to travel on highly efficient and comfortable trains with some private transfers included, or, we combine chartered coaches and express trains for longer journeys. No matter what tour you choose, you will always get the chance to ride on the infamous bullet train (shinkansen). Our tours are designed to make your journey as smooth as possible. so that you will feel comfortable and relaxed at all times.

What happens if there are not enough people to join one of your tours?

If you are booked on one of our tours and we cannot gather enough people to run the tour as it states on the itinerary, we will offer you some alternatives. The first option is to change the small group tour to a semi-escorted tour. What this means is that, instead of having a tour leader throughout, you will have local guides in the places you will visit. We will tailor an identical tour to include these guides instead of a tour leader. The price will not change, as the cost to hire local guides is still very high. One benefit from this is that you will have the full attention of each guide on the spot and more flexibility to change the itinerary, as you like. If this does not suit you we will try to match your itinerary with another scheduled tour. The final option will be to refund your money back in full.
