Japanese Tea Ceremony, also known as The Way of Tea, is an ancient Japanese art focused on the preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered Japanese green tea. Dating from before the 9th century, this traditional art is something you can experience on any of our tours that visit Kyoto.
We can organise a traditional tea ceremony in a local Kyoto tea house, or machiya, where a tea master will demonstrate a traditional tea ceremony. You will then get the chance to perform your own tea ceremony after which you can try the bitter-tasting matcha tea and wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets to balance the flavours.
