Friday Roundup: March 6, 2015

Welcome to the first edition of the Unique Japan Tours Friday Round Up. The purpose of this post is to collect in one place the best things we’ve shared on social media during the week. Social media? Yeah, we use Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Instagram. Follow us on any one of those platforms to get great Japan content from around the web we think is worth reading!

The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail on the Kii Peninsula is a beautiful hike through an untouched area of Japan. This trail forms the center piece of our Scenic Samurai Trails walking tour, but it can be added to any tour. This article provides some history and an overview of the Kumano Kodo.

Osaka is a great city, full of neon, fun and delicious food. But it’s not as tourist friendly as neighboring cities Kyoto and Nara. This trial of English speaking taxis in Osaka is great to hear, and hopefully more people will explore this fantastic city.

There was scandal in 2013 in Europe when horse meat was found to be mixed into a number of beef products. But in Japan, horse is a delicacy, eaten in many places. Here, a journalist makes a special trip to Akita prefecture to try a horse donburi; horse meat served on top of a bowl of rice.

Japan has a few places filled to the brim with cute, fluffy animals, like the bunny island or the fox village. Here, the Telegraph newspaper visits another adorable island, this one full of cats!

With the 2015 Rugby World Cup just around the corner, our minds are turning toward the 2019 Rugby World Cup, being hosted in Japan. During the week, the venues for the 2019 Japan Rugby World Cup were announced. We can’t wait.

Finally, one of our favourite photos from our Instagram account this week. The beautiful beaches at Amami Oshima make it the perfect honeymoon destination!
